[etchells-fleet11-members] Fleet Meeting Minutes

Well maybe not actually minutes, but notes nonetheless.  We had a lightly
attended meeting and did not make quorum.
We did have some good discussion, and I have some note and other items
here.

-The 2009 Schedule has been previously sent, but is reattached here.  Barb
Cup is May 16th.  Let's try to hit the ground running.

-The fleet is in sound financial shape.  You can request details from Jack,
but I think it is best not to publish here as this listserve is publicly
viewable.

-For 2009 there will be a requirement for mandatory RC participation by all
OD racers.  The requirement is quite limited, specifically one person, per
boat, for one Saturday. There is no requirement that your boat not sail (if
for instance you can get your girlfriend to serve RC duty on your behalf),
but you will get average points otherwise. There will be a signup along with
the racing registration, and more details will be in the NOR/SIs.

(I know some of you are not thrilled with this requirement, but it is a good
opportunity for us to build our relationship with the RC.  It is a minor
commitment. Let's make the best of it.)

-There is an OD and RC kick-off seminar and party this Saturday April 25th.
 Information is attached.  This is a good opportunity for us to meet our RC
for the year.  The more fleet members that can go the better.  It starts at
2:30, and ends with drinks and snacks.

-On May 30/31, Allan Terhune from North Sails Annapolis will be in town to
run a seminar for our fleet.  We are using a similar format to what we did a
few years ago with Jud Smith.  A flyer is attached.  North is offering a 10%
discount for sails delivered that weekend, with a bump to 15% for a fleet
order of more than 15 sails.  Please work directly with Allan on any sail
orders.

(We do still need to arrange for a motorboat for Allan to use during this
seminar.  If you can help in this regard, please let me know.)

-The mules have been brought to the manufacturer for maintenance, and are
now back at the mule shed.  Thanks to Jim Stephen for delivery assistance
and holding the mules over the winter.

-Combinations are currently: 1926 pad, 1979 big crane, 1926 little crane,
1103 mule shed.  It is expected that some of these may change at the start
of the season.

-As always we talked about fleet building, and a couple of good ideas were
discussed that I think we should try this year.  The general idea just being
to keep things a bit more social after racing.  If you have other ideas, let
me know.

   1. -The crane haulout is too slow.  Guys on the top boats can be cleaned
   and gone by the time the back of the fleet is out of the water.  So how
   about a couple of volunteer crane operators each week?  We can rotate
   around, and get everyone out of the water a bit faster.
   2. Once out of the water, the deck at the sailing school is a really nice
   space that is underutilized.  Let's us it more with some fleet sponsored
   drinks, chalk talks, etc.
   3. On the other hand, while there are CPD prohibitions on drinking on
   shore and in the pad, they do not apply to boats in the water.  Since
   haulout tends to look like a bit of a raft up anyway there is no reason we
   can't have a bit more fun.
   4. The fleet cruise down to Sunday brunch at Monroe.  We need to find a
   date.  I'm thinking sometime when it's a bit warmer.


Anyway, that's all for now.  As a fleet we didn't make it out for karaoke,
although I did partake later.  No pictures.
