years ago we always sailed the triangle. that is why most of us sailed w/ whinches, not wenches. this was in order  to get the pole back on a tight reach. the reason most fleets abandoned the triangle in the one design world is we all finally realized that for the most part it was very hard on the boat, the crew and the spinnakers. Secondly also realized that those two reaching legs were just a parade with little to no oppurtunity to pass.
