[etchells-fleet11] Verve One Design

I am testing the water on an idea. 

 

The Verve One Design is scheduled against the Canadian Championship. The
boats that usually travel to the Verve will not be coming because of this
scheduling conflict. It is rumored that some of our good boats may be going
to the Canadians, too, which may be borne out in the lack of our fleet
registrations for the Verve.

 

Currently (late registration starts tomorrow), there are 11 Etchells
registered for the Verve with only Randy White/Jerry Fulp from out of town.
Rick Kaiser said he planned to sail but isn't registered. Those registered
are

 

Altman

Basler

Bernhardt

Detweiler

Frerker

Gavin

Hughes

Jones

Sidell

Teborek

 

The event is scheduled to have five races (3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday).
The weather is predicted to be breezy northerly on Saturday. 

 

Here's the question: Given that we will likely have on 12 boats and all but
one is from our fleet, are we interested in running five races on Saturday
and not racing on Sunday? We had 10-12 boats on Saturday (I cannot find the
results posted on our website or CYC's to confirm the participation). While
it is a nice number of boats to race with, do we really need to take two
days on the weekend to race our own fleet members?

 

I would support racing the Verve One Design's scheduled five races in one
day on Saturday and not racing on Sunday. Does anyone else who is registered
for the regatta agree? 

 

I appreciate that it is highly unusual to make this sort of change during
the week of the regatta, but given the lack of participation and time
pressures to be with family or other activities, I thought we might draw
more boats if we shorten the regatta to one day with lots of racing.
