RC Problem

*	All, I want to go on record that I strongly object to the idea
of potentially taking four Etchells off the starting line on the 25th
and thereafter.  Sure, they can race IF they can find a team member to
replace whoever fills in on the RC. That will not be easy as it is not
uncommon to see a few boats looking for crew every week, prior to the RC
"volunteer" program.   
*	I believe the fact that the RC is "Mac Centric" is the basic
cause of the problem.  I assume that this means that we will potentially
lose four boats for every race day that Etchells are involved in RC. 
*	Since we seem to see from 10 to 17 (high) on the line we will
probably see a dilution of "line boats" by 40% to 22% on any days for
which Etchells racers are scheduled for RC duty.  
*	When I first started racing we were a pure "do it yourself"
program - made our own marks, hired and taught someone how to set a
line, do starts, etc. While I do not compare the 2009 program to that
era, I find this new program troubling. 

 

What can we do about it?

*	Ask our fleet Captain, Mike Frerker, to go back to CYC and, at
the lobby to reverse this decision for 2009. 
*	At the minimum, I think we need to stand together and refuse to
see this program repeated next season. 
*	CYC can establish ground rules that link the benefits to RC
members to being involved AFTER the Mac. Make no doubt about it this is
a Mac issue.  Many - not all - RC volunteers bail out after the Mac.  
*	As a qualifier I know that a core group of RC people are
committed and are very diligent throughout the entire season and I hope
we all thank them profusely.  This core group is an important part of
our racing program. 

 Let's see a poll of the fleet have an informal vote on the RC
"Volunteer" program. Like it, don't like it?
